Getting started
Signing in
TLDR Books supports three sign-in methods:
- Sign in with Apple — recommended on iOS. You can choose to share your real email or use Apple’s private relay.
- Sign in with Google — uses your Google account.
- Email and password — create an account with any email address.
If sign-in fails, check that you have an internet connection and that the system clock on your device is set to automatic. If you used Sign in with Apple and chose “Hide my email”, replies from us will go to the relay address you set up in Apple Settings → your name → Sign in & Security → Hide My Email.
Reading a summary
Tap any cover on Home, Explore, or Search. The summary opens in the Reader. Use the toolbar to:
- Switch length — toggle between 5 and 10 minutes mid-read.
- Bookmark — save the book to My Books.
- Display — change text size, theme (Light / Dark / Sepia), and font.
- Share — share a link to the book with friends.
Continue Reading
Once you start a summary, the Home tab shows a Continue Reading row with the books you haven’t finished. Tap a cover to pick up exactly where you left off.
Saving books
Tap the bookmark icon on any cover to save it to My Books. Saved books sync across all your devices when you sign in.
Requesting a book
Don’t see a title you want? In My Books, tap the “Request a book” button, type the title and author, and submit. We’ll add popular requests to the catalog over time. Requested books appear in your Pending list while we work on them.
Privacy & account
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account and all your data at any time:
- Open the App and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Manage Account.
- Tap Delete Account and confirm twice.
If you can’t reach the App for any reason, email support@alethiconsulting.com from the address on your account and we’ll delete the account within 30 days.
Privacy and data
See our Privacy Policy for the full picture of what we collect, why, and who processes it. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to make the App work, we don’t use your data for ads or cross-app tracking, and you can delete everything at any time.
AI-generated summaries
Summaries in TLDR Books are generated by an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude). They aim to capture the central ideas of each book but may contain errors or omissions. Always go to the original book for important decisions.
Troubleshooting
The App won’t load any books
- Confirm you have a working internet connection.
- Force-quit and reopen the App.
- Sign out (Profile → Sign Out) and sign back in.
- If the issue persists, email us at support@alethiconsulting.com with your iOS version and what you’ve tried.
A summary won’t open
Some titles in the catalog are still being generated. If the Reader shows “This summary isn’t ready yet”, check back in a few hours. If it persists for more than a day, let us know.
Notifications aren’t working
iOS Settings → Notifications → TLDR Books → turn on Allow Notifications. Inside the App, Profile → Notifications must also be enabled.
Sign in with Apple not finishing
If the Apple sheet appears but nothing happens after you confirm, check Settings → your name → Sign in & Security → Sign in with Apple, and confirm TLDR Books has not been removed. Removing it forces a fresh sign-up the next time.
