Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the TLDR Books mobile application (the “App”), operated by Alēthi Consulting Inc. (“Alēthi”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement (EULA) applies to your installation and use of the App. These Terms are supplemental to that EULA and apply specifically to the TLDR Books service.

1. The service

TLDR Books is an iOS application that gives you AI-generated written summaries of selected books, with curation, search, saved lists, and book-request features. The App is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed these Terms.
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
You agree to provide accurate information at sign-up and to keep it up to date.

3. AI-generated summaries

The book summaries inside TLDR Books are generated by an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude). They are informational only. They aim to capture the central ideas of each book but may contain errors, omissions, or paraphrasing that does not perfectly reflect the original work. Do not rely on a summary alone for medical, legal, financial, professional, or other consequential decisions — consult the original book and qualified experts for those decisions.

4. Intellectual property and book content

The App, including its design, code, copy, branding, and the AI-generated summaries we publish, is owned by Alēthi or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws.
References to book titles, authors, and publishers in the App are factual references only and do not imply endorsement by, or affiliation with, those authors or publishers.
You may use the App and its summaries for your personal, non-commercial reading. You may not republish, redistribute, scrape, train other models on, or commercially exploit the summaries.
If you believe content in the App infringes your copyright, email support@alethiconsulting.com with the work and the location of the infringing content and we will respond promptly.

5. Acceptable use

When using TLDR Books you agree not to:

Use the App for any unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or abusive purpose.
Attempt to access another user’s account, or scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract content at scale.
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract our source code or our AI prompts, except to the limited extent permitted by applicable law.
Submit book requests or other content that is illegal, hateful, sexual, or designed to harass others.
Interfere with the operation of the App, including by transmitting malware or attempting to overload our infrastructure.

6. Subscriptions and pricing

Version 1 of TLDR Books is free to use. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions in this version. We may introduce paid plans in a future update. If we do, you will be told what the plan costs and what it includes before you are asked to pay, and any current free features will continue to work as advertised at the time you signed up unless we give you reasonable advance notice.

7. Termination

You can stop using the App at any time and delete your account from Profile → Manage Account → Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms or use the App in a way that risks harm to other users or to our service. Where reasonable, we will let you know first.

8. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App and the summaries are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind — express, implied, or statutory — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that summaries will be complete or accurate.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Alēthi will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) US$50.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Your continued use of the App after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Toronto, Ontario will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that you may bring claims in your local small-claims court if eligible.
