Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 26, 2026 · Effective at version 1.0 of TLDR Books for iOS.
This Privacy Policy describes how Alēthi Consulting Inc. (“we”, “us”, “Alēthi”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the TLDR Books mobile application (the “App”).
1. Who we are
TLDR Books is operated by Alēthi Consulting Inc., a corporation registered in Canada. You can reach us at support@alethiconsulting.com.
2. What we collect
Account information
- Name and email address — collected when you sign in with Apple, Google, or email. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple’s private relay address; we never see your real address unless you choose to share it.
- A unique user identifier — created when your account is provisioned, used to associate your data with you across devices.
App usage
- Reading progress and saved books — the books you open, how far you’ve read, which summaries you’ve marked finished, and which titles you’ve saved or bookmarked.
- Reading preferences — your default summary length (5 or 10 minutes), reading mode (Quick Wins / Deep Focus), notification preferences, and appearance settings.
- Search history — recent searches you’ve performed inside the App, stored so you can quickly revisit them.
- Book requests — titles or topics you ask us to add to the catalog.
- Product interaction events — high-level events such as “summary opened” or “length switched”, used to understand which features are working and to surface better picks for you.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect contact lists, photos, audio, location data, financial information, health data, or biometrics.
- We do not use third-party advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking.
- We do not assemble a profile of you for advertising purposes.
3. How we use it
- To run the App — sign you in, sync your library across devices, remember your preferences, and show you personalized picks.
- To generate summaries — the titles, authors, and topics you interact with may be sent to our AI provider (see Section 4) so it can produce or refresh a summary.
- To communicate with you — to answer support requests, send necessary account or product messages, and, only if you opt in, send promotional or referral emails. Promotional emails include an unsubscribe option.
- To keep the App safe — to detect abuse, debug errors, and prevent fraud or harm to other users.
4. Third parties we share with
We use a small number of service providers to operate the App. They process your data only on our instructions and only for the purposes below.
- Apple — for Sign in with Apple and App Store distribution.
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Convex (convex.dev) — our backend database and serverless platform; stores your account, library, and reading progress.
- Anthropic — provider of the Claude AI model that generates the book summaries you read in the App. The book title, author, topic, and your requested summary length are sent to Anthropic to produce a summary. We do not send your name, email, or other personal identifiers as part of generation requests.
- Zoho Mail — processes support, transactional, and opted-in promotional emails we send or receive, such as account-support messages, book-request follow-ups, and referral or product-update emails.
- Cloudflare — hosts our website (this page included) and our API edge.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not authorize any of these providers to use your information for their own marketing.
5. AI-generated content
The summaries inside TLDR Books are produced by an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude). They aim to capture the central ideas of each book, but they are not exact reproductions and they can contain errors or omissions. Anthropic’s handling of the inputs we send is governed by Anthropic’s commercial terms and privacy policy. Always go to the original source for critical decisions.
6. Where your data lives
Account, library, and event data are stored in our Convex backend, which currently operates from servers in the United States. By using the App you understand that your data may be processed outside your country of residence. We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, encryption at rest) on all our infrastructure.
7. How long we keep it
- Account data is kept as long as your account is active.
- Reading progress, saved books, search history, and event logs are kept for as long as needed to provide the App, and at most 24 months after your last sign-in if your account becomes dormant.
- Support email is kept for up to 24 months for reference, then deleted.
- When you delete your account (see below), we delete or irreversibly anonymize all of the above within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, basic transaction records).
8. Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your TLDR Books account, including all associated data, at any time from inside the App:
- Open the App and go to Profile.
- Tap Manage Account.
- Tap Delete Account and confirm twice.
If you cannot access the App for any reason, email support@alethiconsulting.com from the address on file and we will delete your account within 30 days.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain uses. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@alethiconsulting.com from the address on your account. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Children
TLDR Books is rated 4+ on the App Store. The App is intended for general audiences and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, please email us and we will delete the account.
11. Changes
If we materially change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App before the change takes effect.
